Today we made our way from Guatemala City to Sibinal. But before we left the city I had the amazing opportunity to meet a special little girl I have been sponsoring through a nonprofit organization in Kansas City. To protect her identity I have changed her name to Emma. I met Emma, her mother, and a rep from the organization early in my hotel Monday morning. Emma is a loving 6 year old girl with a contagious smile and beautiful dark eyes.
We spent the rest of the morning having breakfast, driving around the city, eating ice cream and buying shoes and clothes for Emma. It was touching that Emma's mother has woven a bag for me. Our time together seemed to slip by quickly and before I knew it Emma and I had to say our goodbyes. Being outside of myself, even for just a few hours, are moments that give clarity and purpose to my life.
Since I first came to Guatemala, back in 2014, I noticed that during the Christmas holiday season, the road toward San Marcos is scattered with less fortunate children. These children are clustered on both sides of the road and tirelessly wave at every car driving by in hopes that someone will stop and give them a Christmas gift. This year, Aldo and I thought it would be a great idea to dress up as Santa Clause, buy some toys and give these children a treat. Enjoy the pictures!
